Worth the effort

My favourite time, in any season, to go to Bradgate Park is first thing in the morning, because I love the vast, emptiness of it. With the snow falling, I knew watching the sun rise over the snow-covered hills there would be something special. Normally I would do this sort of thing on holiday, but I forget to drag myself out of bed to do it here.

Having left the house at 6am, we had to park the car about a mile away from Bradgate Park, because we knew the carpark would not be open anyway at this time, but also because my husband’s car wouldn’t grip on the last hill of the icy road. It turned out to be a fantastic turn of events, because we found a footpath, that took us across the fields with a view of the top of the park in front of us. You will see from the images, taken between 6:30am and 9:30am, how the light changed, the mist disappeared and the sun came up to make the snow glisten. There will be loads more images to view on Facebook soon, but for now, here are those that show why we had a great morning. Our dog, Quito, loved it, even when the snow was so deep in parts, it was up to her belly.
