Using your business for charity

Saturday, 1st October 2011

Reef Hairdressing have organised annual fashion shows with the purpose being to raise money for charity and 2011 was no exception for them. The difference this year, was that they linked with Tracey Pegg to host a bridal fashion show.

Having a wealth of businesses under her roof, Tracey got people from the One Stop Wedding Shop to work with herself and Kayleigh to put together, not just a bridal fashion show, but a wedding fayre, wedding raffle and wedding auction to raise money for Loros. Held at the Malt House Suite, in Syston, the event on Saturday 1st October was a success and the brides bidding at the auction came away with bargain prices for items such as a wedding dress, wedding cake and hog roast. The event raised £2041.20 for Loros.

Nancy Taylor, Loros fundraiser, was impressed with all the hard work that had gone in to the event. Loros looks after 2500 patients and their families, free to the local community, so the money will be a welcome boost.

What made Kayleigh stand out as an inspiration for me, was something she said, when we were discussing how the show had been received. I mentioned that I had overheard a lady comment on the hairstyle of the model on the catwalk. Kayleigh was thrilled because people never usually notice the hair or make up, because the outfits are the focus. Knowing this was the case, that her talent as a hairdresser was going to go unnoticed, she had still worked tirelessly in the past 6 months, because she knew she wanted to raise more money for charity than she had the year before. People like Kayleigh are the humble stars that remind me, that sometimes, it is just about giving back.
